Friday 29th May 2015 – Bike ride **** 9 n/ miles - sunny

We woke to a beautiful calm etang with fish jumping out of the water and landing sometimes up to three times!! The Gt. White Egret was still fishing in the same place and it was gloriously sunny and warm:) We laid and read our books with the door open and by the time we got up the wind had picked up, there were windsurfers out and a batch of teenage school kids having lessons!
I decided to join them and went out for 2 ½ hours. We had lunch then got the bikes off and biked a lovely route through back lanes and tracks to Mandriac lock. You go along the road with the etang on the right and lots of little sluices and ditches on the left with reeds and birds all around. Mag biked this when we were here last time and thought I had done it with her but it turns out she did it twice by herself!! We did 9 n. miles and were out a couple of hours. There were even two boats in the lock!! Came back to the van and went to the beach on the other side of Port Nautique to see how many camper vans were in! Back for a cuppa and read/doze. It was really hot but after a while it clouded over and the sky turned quite black! Had a tinned tea as we are running low on fresh supplies but it was very tasty (steak, mince, potatoes, peas and carrots) and reminded us of Mag’s dear Mum, Mabel, who specialised in this kind of caravan tea:) We sat outside to eat it as the weather still hadn’t made up its mind whether to rain or not! Gorgeous stormy sky at sunset.
